GED Prep
General Education Development (GED) Prep
The mission of this program is to prepare students for academic and personal success through obtaining the necessary skills required to pass the official GED Test and be awarded a State of Florida High School Diploma.
This program strives to motivate students not only to obtain a GED but also to acquire workforce skills to achieve occupational success. The GED: Key to Success course uses the motif of keys—keys that unlock each student's academic potential. Students complete lessons in five academic areas: writing, social studies, science, literature, and mathematics. Practice quizzes and exam questions, along with the expert advice of the instructor, prepare the student for the test.
Unique Requirements:
- Students must be 18 years of age or older.
- Student must not have a State of Florida recognized diploma.
- Student must score at least a 9.0 in reading TABE (Test of Academic Basic Education).

GED Prep Registration Information (online)
Requirements:
- Students must be 18 years of age or older and be withdrawn from their high school.
- Student must not have a State of Florida recognized diploma.
- Student must be a Florida resident in possession of a valid State of Florida ID or driver's license, social security card or tax payers ID.
- Student must score at least a 9.0 in reading TABE (Test of Academic Basic Education).
- Students must have a computer with Internet access (broadband recommended).
- Students must have and maintain a valid email address.
- Students must register in person before testing
Steps to Register:
- Call Central Admissions at 407-841-TECH, or visit one of our five technical centers.
- Request an appointment with a counselor.
Student Services Hours:
- Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Friday, 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
- Complete an "Initial Application Form."
- Provide two forms of identification (one must be a photo ID).
- Pay appropriate application fee, $25 for GED.
- Students must take a TABE (Survey D) and score a 9.0 on the Reading level in order to participate in GED Prep Online. ABE courses are available online for remediation.
- Counselors/Teachers will utilize TABE scores to guide students in making academic and career choices.
- TABE is administered Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
If a student scores 9.0 or lower on the TABE, the counselor may recommend Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes, which are offered through Adult and Community Education sites.

Online GED Pre Assessment Testing
Take a GED Pre Assessment Test to see if you need more preparation or if you are ready to take the official GED test. This 16-question test will take about 20 minutes and results will be provided immediately.
Follow the seven steps below to begin the test.
- Click here and log on to the Florida Adult and Technical Distance Education Consortium and Educator® Florida GED Testing Program website.
- Enter a Username (gedelc).
- Enter a Password (success or succeed).
- Click the “Sign In” button. (At times, the last person to take the exam may not have logged out properly and you may receive one of two messages that an active session was not properly ended. If you get one of these messages, click on the gray “Re-enter Educator” button and click “Begin the Test.”
- Complete the GED Pre Assessment Test (16 questions) and your results will be provided immediately. If a previous exam attempt was left by an earlier student, simply click “Reset the Exam” button and click begin the test.
- If you need more preparation, then Free GED Prep Classes are provided at any OCPS
Technical/ACE center (see a Counselor for more details). - If you are ready to take the official GED test then register today at any OCPS Technical Center.

Adult Basic Education
Mission:
The mission of this program is to prepare students for academic and personal success by building stronger employability skills with Adult Basic Education; a course of instruction in mathematics, reading, language and workforce readiness skills for adults who possess an academic educational level less than grade nine.
Description:
This program strives to motivate students to increase their academic proficiency, but also to acquire workforce skills to achieve occupational success. Students complete interactive online lessons assigned and guided by their instructor. The instructor prescribes the lessons after interpreting the results of the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education), which is required for admission.

Adult Basic Education (ABE) Online
Registration Information and Requirements:

- Student must score at least a 4.0 in reading TABE (Test of Academic Basic Education).

- ABE completers are required to retake the TABE after completing their prescribed course of study.

Health Occupations
Courses:
Domestic Violence—Two (2) Hour
A two hour session on Domestic Violence. Nurses and other healthcare professionals will have an important role in dealing with the prevention, identification and consequences of domestic violence in a variety of clinical settings where victims receive their care. Therefore, this resulted in the various regulating boards mandating that these healthcare professionals be educated in the signs and symptoms associated with domestic violence, how to establish an action plan, the different community resources related to legal aid, shelter, victim counseling, batterer counseling, advocacy groups and child protection services.

HIV/AIDS Update—Two (2) Hour
There is a twofold purpose of this two hour HIV/AIDS update.
1. Healthcare personnel will continue to play a vital role in preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS and in caring for those who are infected by HIV. In order to be effective and compassionate, the most up-to-date information must be provided about transmission, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care/management of the HIV-infected patient.
2. The participant of this program will also meet the re-licensure requirement for employees and clients of health care facilities.

IV Therapy/Central Lines
IV Therapy/Central Lines is a 34 hour online certification course approved by the Bureau of Regulation, State Board of Nursing and the State Board of Respiratory Care. The course exceeds state requirements for intravenous training and central venous management. The final four (4) hours must be completed in a classroom setting. Successful completion of this program will give the LPN, RN, Respiratory Therapist and other healthcare professionals competency in peripheral IV Therapy and Central Venous Management.

The cost includes the online course, a lab/supply fee and the classroom training.

Preventing Medical Errors
The goal of this program is to provide the healthcare provider with an understanding of the medical error problem, factors contributing to medical error occurrence, and processes that can be utilized to reduce the opportunity for a medical error event.
At the completion of this program, the participant will be able to:
- Discuss the incidence and prevalence of medical errors.
- Identify key terms as they relate to medical errors.
- Identify situations and circumstances that can contribute to medical errors.
- Define root cause analysis and explain its process.
- Define sentinel event.
- Identify methods to decrease medical errors.
- Explain the importance of the reporting of medial errors.
- Outline error prone situations and vulnerabilities among special populations.
- Identify processes for improvement of patient outcomes.
- Explain the caregiver's responsibilities for reporting medical errors.
- State why education of the patient and public regarding medical error awareness can reduce its occurrence.

Hospitality Travel
Travel and Tourism
Mission:
Our mission is to prepare students for a variety of entry-level positions in the Travel and Tourism Industry. The school is an active member of the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) and other local travel organizations and boards. Our students may apply for student membership in the American Society of Travel Agents.
Online Courses:
Travel Basics—99 hours study time
Travel Basics 99 hours of study time/16 modules completed in 16 weeks*. Includes Travel Career Development technology, travel products, ground transportation, accommodation, cruises and tours, destinations, sales cycle and specialized sales, communications, money matters and finding a career.
*You can study approximately 6 hours a week. Online students may work more hours per week if they'd like to finish earlier. For instance, if you could work 12 hours a week, you would finish in 8 weeks. The Travel Career Development books are required.

Home Based Class—49-56 study time
This class is best for those with some travel industry experience or those who will also be signing up for the online Travel Basic course. This course is for those who desire to work from home and affiliate with a "host" agency to book their client's vacations. 49-56 hours of study time.

Hospitality
Mission:
The mission of this program is to prepare students for successful employment as entry-level line supervisors and management/supervisors in the hospitality industry and to provide continuing education for persons previously or currently employed in their occupation.
Description:
This blended program prepares students for employment in skilled positions for front desk and entry-level line supervisors in the hospitality industry. It also provides continuing education for persons previously or currently employed who want to update their knowledge and skills. Training includes supervision and management skills, front office training, housekeeping operations, basic computer training, security, food and beverage, sales and marketing, etc. On-the-job internships are also offered.

Orange County Public Schools Career and Technical Education is dedicated to educating and preparing the Central Florida workforce to excel. The online education center and library of online courses is designed to advance your career and enhance your life. You can register and begin courses at anytime. Online courses include computer training such as Microsoft Office, Outlook, FrontPage, Project, Quicken, QuickBooks, Lotus Notes and others.
Enrichment courses are offered on digital imaging, time management, presentation skills, business writing, personal digital assistants, the Internet and more.
