Central Florida Fire Academy Standards are regulated by the Florida Bureau of Fire Standards and Training (BFST) through Chapter 633. F.S. and the State Fire Marshal Rules, Chapter 4A-37, Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.). The BFST is the certifying agency. Career Training within the Central Florida Fire Academy is as follows:

Fire Apparatus Operator prepares you for employment as a driver and pump operator. Training includes hydraulics and fluid dynamics, principles of fire department water supply, nomenclature and operations of fire apparatus, appliances, municipal and rural water systems, maintenance and safety in operational procedures. Standards in this program have been adapted from the National Fire Protection Association Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Professional Qualifications (NFPA 1002).

Fire Fighter II prepares you for employment as a Firefighter I and/or II. The training includes fire service orientation, fire alarms and communication, vehicles, apparatus and equipment, fire behavior, portable extinguishers, fire streams, fundamentals of extinguishment, ladders, hoses, tools and equipment, forcible entry, loss control, ventilation, rescue, protective breathing equipment, first responder emergency medical techniques, water supplies, principles of in-service inspections, safety, controlled burning and employability skills. Performance standards have been adapted from the National Fire Protection Association Firefighter Professional Qualifications (NFPA 1001).

Fire Inspector I training is comprised of five courses: understanding fire inspection practices, fire protection systems, fire codes and standards, building construction and plans review. Each course is 40 clock hours in length and can be taken in any order, but it is recommended that they be taken in sequence. Outcomes and Student Performance Standards in this program have been adapted from the National Fire Protection Association Fire Inspector Professional Qualifications (NFPA 1031).

Fire Instructor includes, but is not limited to, an understanding of adult learning, conducting, and evaluating an active training group; presentations, leading discussions; facilitating structured activities, promoting team learning, assessing and preparing lectures. Fire Officer training is comprised of seven courses specified by the Bureau of Fire Standards and Training and include, but are not limited to, an understanding of principles of supervision, training methods, fire inspection practices, fire protection systems, fire suppression tactics, and hazardous materials. The performance standards in this program have been adapted from the National Fire Protection Association Fire Officer Professional Qualifications (NFPA 1021).

Private Security Officer (Class D) prepares you for employment as a private security guard. Training meets the certification requirements for unarmed (class “D”) security officer, entry-level security officers and occupations that require security licensing in accordance with Florida Statute 493.
