Day in the Life

Every day in an OCPS CTE classroom, lives are changing.

The world around us is changing and progressing in part due to OCPS CTE. What’s being learned in the classroom is applied in the field—in businesses we patronize, stores we shop and organizations we support.

Like most things, it simply begins on an ordinary day. An inquiry becomes a completed application. And successful enrollment transitions into enjoying classes. Every step in the process becomes a significant moment that marks a "new day" in the life of an OCPS CTE student.

As soon as applicants enroll, their lives become different. Days are varied and each one welcomes a new opportunity based on the experience and knowledge gleaned. From information technology to agriculture and graphic design to automotive services technology—the days are as unique as the students who live them.

Dream Job

My dream job is to become a vet and an Olympic track runner.

Previous jobs or career path (if any)

I work at Universal Studios at the moment, handing out strollers and making sure my work area is clean at all times.

How did you become interested in current program or coursework?

I’ve always had a passion for animals and people, which this program gave me the opportunity to do both, pursue my dream of becoming a vet and work at the same time.

Did you have any fears about going back to school?

Not at all

Why did you select OCPS CTE as a postsecondary or continued education option?

I chose OCPS CTE as a postsecondary option because it combines hands on experiences with academic preparation. I do very well with both and we get down to work quickly.

What do you like most about the program?

I love that this program always keeps you on your feet and busy. At the same time you learn something new every day with your peers which makes it more exciting.

What’s something “unexpected” that you learned during your time at OCPS CTE?

Dog training, which I’ve always wanted to do. It brings you to a new level of education and starts up a personal relationship with an animal.

How has OCPS changed your life?

OCPS has changed my life in many ways. Its opened new doors and opportunities for a better future.

What will you do with your certificate/degree/knowledge upon completion of your program/coursework?

I will go on to college and pursue my education in Veterinary Sciences and train for the Olympics.

Do you have any future education plans (at OCPS CTE or another institution)?

Yes

What are your hobbies or what do you do for fun?

I love to train and lift weights. I’m always running track or boxing, working to be the best that I can be.

How do you spend your days on campus when attending class?

I come in the morning for class at 7:00 a.m. and leave at 9:50 a.m. every day. It’s like being in school and on the job at the same time.

Source of Inspiration

Ms. Terri Barton and David Oliver are my inspirations, because they have  gone through so much in their lives and never gave up, eventually coming out on top. They both push me to do more and let me know that I can make it.

What words of wisdom would you give to future OCPS CTE students (pursuing your chosen field or others)?

To the future OCPS CTE students, I would say that anything is possible when you put your mind to it. It’s a lot easier to reach your goal when are doing the job that you love. Let no one put you down… come to learn, and always give nothing less than your best. Just have faith, be respectful, and believe in yourself.
